CAMP HOPE 2016

CAMP HOPE 2016
BONNE FIN, HAITI

The team consisted of a few family members of Carmel Wagnac, the founder of Nelly’s House, along with 8 volunteers from River Oak Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. The purpose of the camp was to show God’s love to the students, families, teachers and the local community. Approximately 60 children from ages 9 to 14 participated in the five-day camp.

Scripture theme for the week was taken from Ephesians 6 which outlines the Armor of God. God asks us to be equipped for battle. Each day, teaching was centered around one of the pieces of armor: the breastplate of righteousness, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit (the word of God), belt of truth, shield of faith, and the shoes of peace.

The camp consisted of daily singing, teaching, skill-building activities and fun games. Students had opportunities to engage in soccer, volleyball, and jump rope. Students also painted two lasting memories of the week: 1) a mural on an exterior wall depicting the power of prayer for the school, Haiti and the world and 2) a mural with a jungle theme for the Kindergartners.

It was a week in which God’s love was felt and His love for the children of Haiti was expressed through His people.  This is the second year of Camp Hope at a Nelly’s House school. The next Camp Hope is scheduled to be at the end of July 2017. Please begin praying for this trip, the children who will be coming, that God will use this time to draw His people closer to Him and that lives will be changed as a result.
