ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

Founded by Carmel Wagnac in 2007, Nelly’s House is named after her mother for her legacy of feeding people even out of her limited means.  With our administrative work based in South Carolina, USA, Nelly’s House is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization, entirely staffed by volunteers.  Our work entails feeding school children in the rural southwestern region of Haiti, children who display tremendous determination, often walking up to two hours to and from school, and typically spending a day at school without a meal. Nelly's House operates several lunch programs, feeding hundreds of children on a daily basis.

We have a strong commitment to our mission and require even our neediest families to demonstrate their commitment to the lunch program by providing a plate and spoon for their child. In spite of their financial hardships, we are proud to say that 100% of all our families were successful in securing these needed supplies.

Nelly’s House is committed to not only feeding children, but also supporting the development of the communities in which the children live. 100% of the foods we purchase come from farmers and small independent business in the cities where our schools are located. Our goal has and will always be that wherever there is a Nelly’s House affiliated school, we will feed the children and the surrounding communities will improve and grow.

The lunch program continues to be a source of hope in the face of incredible economic challenges.  We depend on the faithful and generous contributions of our supporters, and the tireless work of our volunteers to operate and successfully continue in the mission of feeding the hungry.

"And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." ~  Isaiah 58:10-11
